Andrew Moore and the Queens Museum

I went to the Queen’s Museum yesterday for the first time to check out an exhibition of photographs by Andrew Moore, called “Detroit Disassembled.” It’s really powerful in that it depicts ruinesque urban scenes from Detroit that evoke thoughts of a post-industrial, North American Pompeii. There is astonishing irony in that the physical state of the museum’s exterior would lead one to believe that it, too, is in disassembly.  Not to mention Corona Park feeling a little bit like a relic of a bygone era. If you’re interested in such topics, I recently read The World Without Us by Alan Weisman, which surveys humanities greatest legacies and the process by which nature will heal its wounds and forget we ever existed.

Also, worth mentioning but probably not much of a surprise to anyone is the giant model of New York City that takes up a huge room of the museum. Pretty fun.
